9 Signs That Adrenal Fatigue is Behind Your Anxiety, Sleep Problems and Joint Pain

by March 20, 2017

Fatigue is one of the most common ailments in the United States, and things that everybody does as part of their daily routine might be doing your body more harm than you think. Adrenal fatigue is a real thing, and here is what it can do to your body.

What is Adrenal Fatigue?

The term “adrenal fatigue” has been used to explain a group of symptoms that are said to occur in people who are under long-term stress; whether it be mental, physical, or emotional. Supporters of adrenal fatigue say that you may be more likely to develop the condition if you have a stressful job, home life, working student, or single parent; but stress is only one of the things that cause this condition things that you do in your daily life such as drink too much coffee, lack of sleep, Excessive workouts, and YO-YO dieting. Other factors such as illness and major surgeries play hand to hand with the condition as well. It is a term that is used by some to say that fatigue and other symptoms are caused by a poorly working adrenal gland.

What are the symptoms?

  • Excessive tiredness
  • Lack of Motivation
  • Puffy under eyes
  • Bad PMS
  • Decreased Cognition
  • Feeling of being overwhelmed
  • Difficulty bouncing back from stress or illness
  • Craving for salty or sweet snacks
  • You feel stiff and sore
  • You Can’t sleep
  • Hormonal imbalance

What Causes Adrenal Fatigue?

The body has two adrenal glands, which are located above the kidneys. The adrenal glands secrete more than 50 hormones that are essential for life. Hormones including cortisol which help your body convert food into energy, normalize blood sugar, respond to stress and maintain your immune system’s inflammatory response. Aldosterone, which helps keep your blood pressure and blood volume normal by maintaining a proper balance of sodium, potassium and water in your body. Adrenaline, a hormone that increases your heart rate and controls blood flow to your muscles and brain, along with helping the conversion of glycogen to glucose to your liver.

These hormones and others produced by your adrenal glands control such body functions as:

  • Maintaining metabolic process, things like managing blood sugar levels and regulating inflammation
  • Regulating your body’s balance of salt and water
  • Controlling the “fight or flight” response to stress
  • Maintaining pregnancy
  • Producing sex steroids such as estrogen and testosterone

Ironically speaking, although the adrenal glands are there to help cope with things like stress, too much of it is actually what causes their function to break down. As part of this, your heart rate and blood pressure increase, digestion slows, and your body becomes ready to face a potential threat or challenge.

How Can I cure it?

There are many natural cures to adrenal fatigue that are easy and effective!

  • Meridian Tapping Or more commonly know as Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT- EFT is a universal healing tool that can provide impressive results for physical, emotional, and performance issues. Learn more about it here.
  • Cut out excessive caffeine!
  • Listen to your body and rest when you feel tired, and sleep in!
  • Exercise regularly but not excessively; exercise is a great stress reliever
  • Eat a healthy nutrient-dense diet; eat a small snack every three or four hours, eat within the first hour of awakening, and eat before becoming hungry.
  • Flood the adrenals with B vitamins, B vitamins are food for the adrenals and can be low in a high-fat, low-carb diet. B12 is great for energy production.
  • Focus of hydration, dehydration is a hallmark of adrenal fatigue. Drink plenty of fluids and try adding things like fresh lemon or Himalayan sea salt to your water.
  • Herbs, herbs like licorice root, ashwagandha, and Rehmannia help balance and stimulate the adrenals.

It is important to remember that it takes time for your adrenal glands to burnout, so it is going to take time for them to recover. It can take anywhere from Six months to two years to fully recover.

Take care of your body, be patient, and good things will come from it!

Fukushima: First Images Emerge Of Radioactive Salmon In Canada

by March 19, 2017

The Fukushima nuclear accident is one of the worst disasters in the history of our planet. It has devastated the surrounding soil, people, animals, and food – but that’s not all.

It has been about 6 years since the disaster first took place. Since nuclear activity is relatively new to the human race, we still aren’t completely aware of all of the environmental factors that will be provoked by the accident. However, as time goes on we are seeing some interesting things. Because of this, images were released from British Columbia, Canada and they show something startling.

The images feature radioactive salmon! Because of the nuclear disaster at Fukushima, over 1/3rd of the world’s oceans were contaminated by nuclear waste. Consequently, fish and other marine life are paying the price. A team of researchers from the University Of Victoria started an investigation of the salmon. They took radioactive samples of the fish and tested them.

“WHOI is a crowd-funded science seawater sampling project, which has been monitoring the radioactive plume making its way across the Pacific to America’s west coast, from the demolished Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in eastern Japan,” Environews reported.

According to the tests, the samples from the Oregon coast measured around 0.3 becquerels per cubic meter of cesium 134.This level of radiation was deemed safe and “not a risk to humans or the environment”  by multiple researchers in both the US and Canada.

The Real Effects Of Coloring Your Child’s Hair

by March 19, 2017

Hair coloring and dyes are one of the biggest trends right now, and have been for a while. We realize that all the kids are doing it, but it might not be safe for your child.

A child is very vulnerable before they hit puberty. Many studies prove that prepubescent hair is not at all ready for harmful chemicals that are in dyes. “Hormones play a key role in the development of a child’s hair and skin,” says Kendall Ong, owner of Mane Attraction Salon in Phoenix.“It isn’t until reaching puberty that your hair begins to mature and become the hair you will generally have into adulthood.”

Chemically altering a child’s hair prior to the age of puberty, therefore, is not ideal. “Before puberty, a kid’s hair is typically thinner and more fragile and can be easily damaged by even the most gentle hair color formulas,” says Harmon, another stylist/activist.

Many doctors and physicians advise parents to make their children wait until at least sixteen years of age. Frank Friscioni of Oscar Blandi Salon in Manhattan and Frank Cassi Beauty in Palm Beach agrees. “I would not want to apply dye to a child’s scalp who is under 16 years of age,” says Friscioni. “On the scalp, hair color can easily penetrate through the scalp and into the blood. There is no science to say that this is dangerous, but I would still be wary.”

How A Vitamin Cured My Anxiety (And How You Can See If It’s Causing Yours!)

by March 19, 2017

So many people suffer from anxiety, not only in the US, but all over the world. It has plagued the world population, but new research shows it might be a vitamin deficiency!

There are about 3.3 million American adults suffering from anxiety and anxiety disorders. Although it is normal to experience anxiety sometimes, but not if it is a daily struggle. Anxiety disorders are the most common form of mental illness in the United States. Modern day pharmaceuticals are only making it worse too. However, Elisa Black has discovered something amazing!

You can read her story below.

“My anxiety has destroyed relationships, clawed at my insides until I was sick, left me cowering under blankets, plagued me with panic attacks and tipped me into post-natal depression following the birth of my first son.

I was nervous from the beginning…  At 25 I had to move back home with my parents and didn’t leave my room for three months, convinced that I would die if I did.  For more than a decade, I have sought a cure. Some things have helped for a while, others not at all, and always anxiety was there in some way.  I’ve doggedly practised yoga, meditated morning and night, exercised feverishly to try and get rid of the adrenalin coursing through my veins.

I’ve sought solace in wine and avoided anxiety-inducing situations to the point of agoraphobia. And, for the last year, my anxiety has edged ever closer to depression, as I berated myself for not being good enough to beat what so many seem to view as a personal failing, something I should be able to control if I just tried hard enough.

Yet today my beast, finally, is a paper tiger, a tiny shadow in the corner of my heart. It wasn’t drugs or therapy or deep-bloody-breathing that finally slayed it though. It was a vitamin.

For years, decades, I was looking outside for the answer, when I should have been looking inside all along. Looking at my genes. Because it turns out I have a genetic mutation on one of my genes, one with the rather apt acronym MTHFR. The result is that my body has trouble processing B-group vitamins.

But here’s the thing: I am far from being alone. The genetic mutation also affects close to one in five people and could be responsible for everything from mood disorder or multiple miscarriages to strokes, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and many other illnesses.

And the good news is that the potential treatment — folinic acid — is cheap, relatively easy to find and side-effect free. The distinction between folinic acid* and the common dietary vitamin, B9 or folic acid, is an important one. Variations in the MTHFR gene mean I am unable to convert folic acid into a form my body can use — folinic acid — easily. That, in turn, can lead to a Pandora’s Box of health problems.

Stirling’s Dr Andrew Owen has been listening to me bang on about my anxiety for more than 10 years.  I first saw him after 12 months of virtually constant panic attacks had stripped 10kg from my frame, caused relentless insomnia and had driven me home from a life overseas, having left a relationship in ruins and on the edge of a nervous breakdown.

He helped me tone down my more manic side with drugs and psych referrals but anxiety had never entirely left me, ready to rear its ugly head in times of stress or when the kids get sick and I suddenly think that weird rash is smallpox (modern eradication be damned) or in the small hours of the night when the tiniest thing can seem like the gravest catastrophe.   Six months ago he suggested I, along with many of his patients, be tested for a MTHFR variation. Aware of research in the area for the last six or so years and the benefits that had been observed from taking folinic acid, Owen conducted his own specific research before deciding to see if it could help others.

Like any good doctor I tried it on myself first and quickly became aware of a substantial rise in my energy levels,” he says. “After a few of my patients responded dramatically I thought this could be something to use on those who didn’t respond to SSRIs (a type of antidepressant).”
