DIY Peppermint Shower Soothers To Fight Against Colds and Flu

by January 2, 2017

Cold and Flu season abounds, and it has already begun to claim its victims! Learn how to make these DIY shower soothers to help fight it!

These Do-It-Yourself shower soothers are easy to make and are extremely effective! They also smell amazing! This soothing remedy will help relieve you of your cold and flu symptoms immediately! Sometimes eating right, taking your vitamins, and staying warm isn’t enough to combat the cold and flu. With our busy-body nature, it is difficult to lie in bed and get the rest we need to recover from sickness. If you experience rough mornings of congestion, sore throat, and sinus issues, try using these in the shower!

To use a shower soother, turn on your shower to the desired temperature and place the soother out of the direct spray of the water, on the shower floor. The steam will create a fragrant vapor that will clear your sinuses and provide some natural relief for congestion. The tiny volatile molecules of healing plants are captured through distillation, creating an essential oil. The shower steam releases these molecules from the soother and is inhaled and pass through the sinus membranes, entering the bloodstream.

These DIY shower soothers are used to promote healthy respiratory function through peppermint essential oils. The main chemicals of Eucalyptus oil make it a perfect oil to make you breathe better, feel better, and live better. I included the recipe below.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of baking soda
  • 2 tbsp of salt
  • 3 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
  • 1 drop of peppermint essential oil
  • 1/3 cup of lemon juice
  • Water as needed
  • Mini muffin cup liners
  • Mini muffin tin O Cookie cutters/silicone molds/cookie sheet

Directions:

  1.  Using a glass mixing bowl, stir baking soda and salt with a fork.
  2.  Add the lemon juice a little at a time. It will get fizzy when the acid reacts with the baking soda, keep stirring.
  3. Add water a few tablespoons-full at a time until it looks moist and crumbly and will clump together.
  4. Line your muffin tin with cupcake liners or silicone molds. If using a cookie sheet, grease it first so your dough doesn’t stick. I use coconut or almond oil.
  5.   Roll the dough in your hands to make a 2 inch round ball, then add the ball of dough to your muffin cup or cookie sheet. If you are using the cookie sheet, you have many shape options with cookie cutters and silicone molds. Amazon sells many fun shapes.
  6.  Bake them for 10-20 minutes at 350 degrees. They will look a little bit like cookies when they are done baking.
  7.  Gently remove them from the muffin tin and liner and place them on a plate to cool.
  8.  While they’re cooling, add 1 drop of Peppermint oil and 3 drops of Eucalyptus oil to each shower soother.
  9.  Leave them out overnight to cool and harden, uncovered.

You can store the soothers in a glass jar with a tin cover. The longer they preserve in the jar, the more effective they are! If crumbled, use a fork and turn them into a powder. Place two tablespoons of it into a dish and place it in the shower with you. The powder will work the same as the solid form of the soother. Enjoy!

Yes, You Can Grow New Brain Cells. Here’s How.

by January 2, 2017

Did you know that you could grow new brain cells? You can! It is through a process called neurogenesis! Here is how you can do it.

The definition of neurogenesis is the growth and development of nervous tissue. It is essentially the birth of new neurons from neural stem or progenitor cells in the brain. Certain environmental factors can either speed up, or slow down neurogenesis. The creation of new brain cells was always thought to be impossible. Due to the discoveries of many different neuroscientists around the world, we know that it is in fact, possible!

Neurogenesis takes place in two parts of the brain; Subventricular zone and the Hippocampus. These parts of the brain play a key role in the formation of cognitive pathological disorders like anxiety, depression, and addiction. It also plays a key role in the development of neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s. In cases like this, neurogenesis is a perfect combat. Parkinson’s is a neurodegenerative disease, meaning that the production of new brain cells has ceased or decreased rapidly. Neurogenesis is the formation of new brain cells, making it ideal for diseases like Parkinson’s. To reverse the process of diseases like this, we need to harness the neurogenesis.

There are many different ways to stimulate the growth of new brain cells. The production of new brain cells could correct the unresponsive brain cells left behind from brain diseases. One way to harness neurogenesis is through exercise. Cardiovascular exercise such as running, interval training, cross fit and or yoga are the single most effective ways of boosting neurogenesis; they come with a vast array of health benefits for mind and body, and are also important stress relievers.

The endorphin’s produced acting as a potent antidote to cortisol, the stress hormone. Exercise has been found to increase levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and glial cell line-derived trophic factor (GDNF), two key growth factors supporting neurogenesis.  It also increases hormones such as testosterone which also seem to have an extremely beneficial effect on neurogenesis, and act as a buffer against the effects of psychological stress.

You can also harness neurogenesis by modifying your diet, lifestyle, and environment. An enriched environment has shown to have positive effects on neurogenesis via the survival rates and assisting in the integration of new neurons into the hippocampus. Here is a cross-section; you can see where the new neurons incubate.

Doctor Sandrine Thuret, a neural stem cell researcher at the King’s College of London, has examined the power and potential of the human body to grow new brain cells.  Her research has uncovered a slew of activities that are good for regrowth.  She has also isolated some very dangerous behavior that will slow down the production of new brain cells, including excessive sugar, stress and lack of sleep.

50% of All Colon Cancer Deaths Could Be Avoided If Everyone Did These 10 Natural Things

by January 1, 2017

According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) processed meat is considered a group 1 carcinogen. This is because it is linked with colorectal cancer.

Our colons are very important. They are responsible for storing and eliminating waste from our bodies. Colon cancer is preventable. Most cases are caused by smoking, infections. stress, pollution, and unhealthy diets. There are many different ways we can work towards preventing colon cancer. Here are the best ways:

  • Eat more fruit and veggies!
    • Fruit and veggies are high in antioxidants that can fight against cancer. They contain things like magnesium, and can lower the risk of colorectal tumors by at least 13 percent! Be sure to eat a good amount of cruciferous veggies as well as things like dry plums and flaxseeds!
  • Take proper supplements.
    • Eating foods that are high in vitamin D as well as spending time in the sun is a very good thing, however, you may also want to add a vitamin D3 supplement to your daily routine.
  • Do not eat processed meats.
    • Avoid any meats that are smoked, salted, or cured. They are the most dangerous ones for your health. These meats contain things like chemicals and preservatives that are known to cause cancer.
  • Avoid red meats.
    • Red meat not the problem but the way in which we obtain red meat is an issue. Organic grass fed red meat is fine but almost all of the meat we buy comes from animals fed with glyphosate-contaminated grains.
  • Stop smoking and drinking.
    • Drinking and smoking in excess can cause cancer. Avoid these unhealthy habits at all costs.
  • Exercise as much as possible.
    • Be physically active. It can lower your chances by around forty percent when it comes to the development of colorectal cancer.
  • Avoid fried foods as best you can.
  • Eat more onions.
    • Onions are full of quercetin which is known for inhibiting cancer cell growth inside the body.
  • Sleep in the dark.
    • Do this because light sources reduce the production of melatonin in your body.
  • Drink ginseng tea.
    • The root of ginseng is known fo decreasing the growth of colon cancer cells.

It is that simple. Doing things the healthy was doesn’t always have to be complicated or hard. If you cannot do all of these things at least taking the time to implement a few of them might make a huge difference in your life. Dryer Sheets Cause Hormone Imbalance, Neurotoxicity, Respiratory Problems, & Even Cancer

by January 1, 2017

Dryer sheets can be found in almost every household! They seem to be harmless, but studies show they aren’t.

Dryer sheets are meant to make your laundry have a fresh smell and feel nice to the touch! Although they seem harmless, they aren’t so user-friendly. In fact, most commercial dryer sheets are loaded with an abundance of toxic chemicals. Dryer sheets even contain Chloroform! The toxins in dryer sheets go straight to your brain when heated up. They attack the brain’s most sensitive neurological centers! When the dryer sheet is heated up, the chemicals are especially toxic!

If you use dryer sheets, you need to find an alternative method now. Dryer sheets are essentially coating your clothes with toxic chemicals. They contain an artificial chemical perfume that is extremely toxic. They are also Carcinogens! They cause liver damage and cancer in mammals. Dr. Anne Steinemann, UW Professor, performed a study on dryer sheets and their toxic side effects. They found that more than 25 VOCs emitted from dryer vents. It contains harsh concentrations of toxic chemicals like acetaldehyde, acetone, and ethanol. Two of these chemicals are considered carcinogenic too! one of the carcinogenic VOC’s, acetaldehyde, had emissions that would represent 3% of total acetaldehyde emissions from automobiles in the study area. Researchers say that this is an incredibly high emission of toxic chemicals.

There are many different natural remedies that can be used in the replacement of dryer sheets. Essential oils can be a perfect one! They can make your clothes feel nice and smell great too!

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and industry-generated Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) issued a list in 1999 of chemicals in fabric softeners. The following is a list of chemicals in fabric softener products, most in untested combinations.

Chemicals Found in Fabric Softeners

  1. Alpha-Terpineol–This chemical has been linked to disorders of the brain and nervous system, loss of muscle control, depression, and headaches
  1.  Benzyl acetate–Benzyl acetate has been linked to cancer of the pancreas
  1.  Benzyl alcohol–This upper respiratory tract irritant can cause central nervous system (CNS) disorders, headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and dramatic drops in blood pressure.
  1.  Chloroform–Neurotoxic, anesthetic and carcinogenic. Really toxic to your brain. Inhaling its vapors may cause loss of consciousness, nausea, headache, vomiting, and/or dizziness, drowsiness.
  1.  Ethanol– Another fabric softener ingredient which is on the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list and linked to CNS disorders.
  1.  Ethyl Acetate–causes headaches and is on the EPA Hazardous Waste list
  1.  Linalool–in studies, this chemical caused loss of muscle coordination, nervous system and brain disorders, and depression

     8.  Pentane–causes headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, drowsiness, and depression
