Red Flags: 7 Life-Threatening Health Conditions that Your Eyes Reveal

by January 19, 2017

People say that the eye is a window into the soul. They might be onto something too! You can learn a lot of things through your eyes! For example, here are 7 life threatening health conditions that can be recognized through your eyes!

The human eye is amazing. We don’t often give our eyes as much thought as we should, that is until something goes wrong and our vision is affected. Also, you can suffer from many health conditions and be completely unaware! Simply using the human eye, you can recognize these 7 life threatening health conditions! Scientists say that you can tell a lot about a person through their eyes. They claim that you can see personality, character, and fortune traits of a person through the eyes.

Daniel Richardson, a neuroscientist at the University College London who led a study that found eye movements facilitate memory retrieval, says “the eyes are like a window into our thought processes, and “they could potentially reveal things that a person might want to suppress, such as implicit racial bias.” Another doctor that specializes in the human eye is Dr. Mark Lipton. He is the director of optometry at Beach Eye Care in Virginia Beach. He explains some red flags you should look out for in your eyes.

Bulging Eyes

Bulging of the eyes can be an indicator of serious health issues. Doctors call this indicator Exophalmos. Exophthalmos is defined in Dorland’s Medical Dictionary as an “abnormal protrusion of the eyeball; also labeled as proptosis.” Proptosis in the same reference is defined as exophthalmos. Another resource suggests that the terms exophthalmos and proptosis can be used to describe eyes appearing to bulge out of the face due to an increase in the volume of the tissue behind the eyes. Other potential causes of bulging eyes include neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that can affect your sympathetic nervous system; leukemia, a type of cancer that can affect your white blood cells; rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of cancer that can develop in your soft tissues.

Permanent Sty

Stye, also known as hordeolum, is an infection of an oil gland in the eyelid. This results in a red tender bump at the edge of the eyelid. The outside or the inside of the eyelid can be affected. They usually are caused by bacterial infections.

Blurred Vision

The primary causes of blurred vision are refractive errors — nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism — or presbyopia. But blurry vision also can be a symptom of more serious problems, including a potentially sight-threatening eye disease or neurological disorder. Blurred vision at all distances often is a symptom of astigmatism. A type of refractive error, astigmatism usually is caused by an irregularly shaped cornea.

Cataracts

A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s natural lens, which lies behind the iris and the pupil. Cataracts are the most common cause of vision loss in people over age 40 and is the principal cause of blindness in the world. In fact, there are more cases of cataracts worldwide than there are of glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy combined, according to Prevent Blindness America (PBA). Today, cataracts affect more than 22 million Americans age 40 and older. And as the U.S. population ages, more than 30 million Americans are expected to have cataracts by the year 2020, PBA says.

Grey Corneal Ring

Gray-Corneal-Ring

Arcus senilis is a white, grey, or blue opaque ring in the corneal margin (peripheral corneal opacity), or white ring in front of the periphery of the iris. It is quite commonly present in the elderly. It can also appear earlier in life as a result of hypercholesterolemia. Arcus senilis can be confused with the limbus sign, which reflects calcium rather than lipid deposits.

Yellow Whites

Normally the whites of eyes or sclera are white in color. One can get yellow sclera, a condition also called scleral icterus, which is caused by an elevation of bilirubin in the bloodstream. Bilirubin is made in the liver and is yellow in color.  If a person suffers from liver disease, the liver can no longer process the breakdown of red blood cells and bilirubin, its natural metabolic product, no longer enters the bile and instead builds up in the blood and tissues, including the sclera of the eyes.

Ectopia Lentis

Marfans-Syndrome

Ectopia lentis syndrome is an inherited connective tissue disorder that shares some of the features of Marfan syndrome – particularly lens dislocation of the eye, which can cause serious vision problems. A person may be diagnosed with ectopic lentis syndrome when they inherit the skeletal features of Marfan syndrome (e.g., long arms, legs and fingers; tall thin body type; curved spine, etc.) together with lens dislocation of the eye, but have no other Marfan features such as those affecting the heart and blood vessels.

15 Cancer Symptoms Women Often Ignore!

by January 19, 2017

Cancer has become more common than ever! Studies show that women often ignore these common indicators of cancer!

In 2016, an estimated 1,685,210 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States and 595,690 people will die from the disease. The most common cancers in 2016 are projected to be breast cancer, lung and bronchus cancer, prostate cancer, colon and rectum cancer, bladder cancer, melanoma of the skin, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, thyroid cancer, kidney and renal pelvis cancer, leukemia, endometrial cancer, and pancreatic cancer.

Some of the cancers that most often affect women are breast, colon, endometrial, lung, cervical, skin, and ovarian cancers. Knowing about these cancers and what you can do to help prevent them or find them early (when they are small and easier to treat) may help save your life. Breast cancer is the most common cancer that women may face in their lifetime (except for skin cancer). It can occur at any age, but the risk goes up as you get older. Because of certain factors, some women may have a greater chance of having breast cancer than others. But every woman should know about breast cancer and what can be done about it.

Women’s bodies change all the time. Women experience many different stages of growth in their bodies, but sometimes your body can take an unnatural path. Women should be well aware of the warning signs of cancer. Many women will have early warning signs of cancer. Being able to recognize early warning signs of cancer might be able to save a life! It is important to stay informed, so here are 15 early warning signs of cancer that women shouldn’t ignore.

unusual-cancer-symptoms

  • Breast Changes – Most breast lumps aren’t cancer, but your doctor should always check them. Let her know about changes such as skin dimpling, skin puckering, nipples that turn inward, nipple discharge, or redness and scaling of the nipple or breast skin.
  • Bloating – Marleen Meyers, MD, an oncologist at NYU Langone Medical Center says that women are natural bloaters. But she also says that If your symptoms don’t get better with time, or if they happen with weight loss or bleeding, see a doctor. Constant bloating can sometimes mean ovarian cancer. You’ll have a pelvic exam as well as blood tests, and sometimes an ultrasound.
  • Between Period Bleeding – If you’re still getting periods, tell your doctor if you’re spotting between them. Bleeding that’s not a part of your usual monthly cycle can have many causes, but your doctor will want to rule out endometrial cancer (cancer of the lining of your uterus).
  • Skin Changes – A change in the size, shape, or color of a mole or other spot is a common sign of skin cancer. See your doctor for a thorough exam and perhaps a biopsy. This is one time you don’t want to wait, Meyers says.
  • Blood  in Urine or Stool – Talk to your doctor if you’re bleeding from a part of your body that normally doesn’t, especially if the bleeding lasts more than a day or two, Meyers says. Bloody stool is often from hemorrhoids, but it can also be a symptom of colon cancer. Bloody urine is usually the first sign of cancer of the bladder or kidneys, says Herbert Lepor, MD, a urologist at NYU’s Langone.
  • Lymph Node Changes – Lymph nodes are small, bean-shaped glands around the body. Most changes in them come from common infections. But some cancers, including leukemia and lymphoma, can also cause lymph nodes to swell. It’s a good idea to see your doctor if you have a lump or swelling anywhere in your body that lasts a month or more, Meyers says.
  • Trouble Swallowing – Occasional trouble swallowing is nothing to worry about. But when it happens often, especially with vomiting or weight loss, your doctor may want to check you for throat or stomach cancer.
  • Random Weight Loss – Most unintended weight loss is not cancer, Meyers says. “It’s often caused by stress or your thyroid, but it can be a sign of pancreatic cancer,” she says. Stomach and lung cancers are also possible. Your doctor may ask for a lot of tests to look for a problem, including blood tests and imaging tests, like a CT scan.
  • Heartburn – Too much food, alcohol, or stress (or all three) can cause serious heartburn. Meyers suggests that you change your diet for a week or two to see if your symptoms get better.
  • Mouth Changes – If you smoke, watch for white or bright-red patches inside your mouth or on your lips. Both can signal oral cancer. Ask your doctor or dentist about tests and treatment.
  • Fever – A fever that doesn’t go away and can’t be explained could mean leukemia or another blood cancer. Your doctor should get the details of your medical history and give you a physical exam to check for the cause.
  • Fatigue – Talk to your doctor if your fatigue never gets better or if you have other symptoms, like blood in your stool. Your doctor will ask for your complete medical history and give you blood tests.
  • Change in Urination – Urinary symptoms can include frequent urination, small amounts of urine, and slow urine flow or a general change in bladder function. These symptoms can be caused by urinary infections (usually in women) or, in men, by an enlarged prostate gland.
  • Unexplained Pain – Pain can be a result of numerous conditions, but ongoing pain which is unexplained and lasts a month or longer can signal bone, brain, or other cancers. Ask your doctor about any suspicious prolonged and unexplained pain.
  • Coughing – This is probably one of the most mundane and diverse symptoms on the list. There are a ton of different reasons that people cough, and more often than not they are trivial and temporary in nature. It’s when the cough persists over the course of weeks that someone should voice concern. If you find yourself in pain or short of breath during the cough it could be serious. If you cough up blood, it is serious. Smokers should pay particular attention to coughing, as it’s the most typical sign of lung cancer.

At The Age of 94, Betty White Reveals Her Secret to Staying Young

Betty acts, writes, does radio shows, activism, and so many other incredible things. Betty recently has taken the time to shed some light on her secret to youthfulness.

During an interview with Al Roker, she revealed that hobbies have kept her young. Betty says that hobbies help tremendously when it comes to keeping a person energized. She says that every person should have a passion and should not be afraid to get hooked on something. This will give a person more energy. For Betty her most fulfilling hobby is her work with animals.

This makes sense because hobbies are known for enhancing your immune system, and improving flexibility as well as reduce stress. What Happens to Your Lungs, Brain,Teeth, Lungs, Kidneys and Mood When You Drink Diet Soda

by January 19, 2017

Diet soda is nothing more than a remedy of unnatural ingredients, poisons, carcinogens, and chemicals! Diet soda is horrible for your body! Here is what happens to your lungs, brain, teeth, kidneys, and your mood when you drink diet soda!

It would be a good time to give up the soda. Especially diet soda. Diet soda is advertised to be a healthy alternative to regular soda, but it might be even worse. Diet soda has already been brought into the courtroom multiple times. The case that was most despicable is when it was discovered that diet soda contains a highly carcinogenic chemical known as aspartame! Whatever the reason, eliminating diet soda from your diet will improve your health from head to toe. Research on diet soda is still in its infancy, but there’s enough out there to identify what you can look forward to when you put down the can and cool down with an unsweetened iced tea instead.

If you decide to cut out sodas, you will experience a relief in headaches and migraines. If you are a sufferer of frequent headaches or migraines, it might be caused by your diet soda habit! A 2013 animal study found that rats that drank diet soda had damaged cells and nerve endings in the cerebellum—the part of the brain responsible for motor skills! You’ll also have more sensitive taste buds, weight loss, strengthened bones, and you even handle booze better! Amazing!

Diet Soda harms your heart! According to research from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, men who drank two or more servings of Diet Coke had a 23% higher risk of developing heart failure. In the study, 42,400 men were tracked over 12 years and 3,604 cases of a positive association between sweetened beverage consumption and risk of heart failure were found. In addition, 509 people died of the condition.

Diet soda also induces kidney problems. A study done back in 2009 of over 3,000 women found a link between diet soda and kidney problems. “While more study is needed, our research suggests that higher sodium and artificially sweetened soda intake are associated with greater rate of decline in kidney function,” said Dr. Julie Lin MD, MPH, FASN of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston and coauthor of the study. Researchers found that women who drank two or more diet sodas a day had as much as a 30% decrease in kidney function.

They can also increase your risk of metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors that raises your risk for heart disease and other health problems like diabetes and stroke, in addition to increased belly fat and high cholesterol. A 2008 study of about 10,000 adults at the University of Minnesota found that 1 soda drink a day led to a 34% increased risk of metabolic syndrome. Additionally, another study found a 36% greater risk of metabolic syndrome related to drinking diet soda and a 67% greater risk of type 2 diabetes compared with people who did not drink any diet soda.

These diet drinks usually include the artificial sweetener and food additive aspartame, which contains what Dr. Blaylock refers to as a powerful “excitotoxin.” Excitotoxins are substances added to certain foods and beverages that can literally stimulate nerve cells to death, causing gradual damage to your brain.

Dr. Blaylock is considered the foremost authority on the subject of excitotoxins such as aspartame and monosodium glutamate (MSG). He warns that they not only contribute to the escalation of neurodegenerative disease such as Alzheimer’s, but also to diverse chronic illness, including learning disorders, psychiatric conditions, even cancer.
Although soda tastes good sometimes, it is not worth the risk of all of these conditions. It is purely toxic for your body. It has no nutritional value, and you’re only contributing the the corporate greed by purchasing these products! Instead of soda, try water with lemon! It is delicious, and packs a hydrating punch! You will also feel much better!

I Never Imagined That Toothpaste Could Do So Many Things. Check These 20 Amazing Tricks!

by January 18, 2017

It turns out that toothpaste has more uses than brushing your teeth! You can use it for many different things! Here are 20 ways to utilize toothpaste around the house.

Toothpaste contains many different strong chemicals that are bad for your health. While there are many different natural alternatives for oral hygiene, you can use your toothpaste to clean up around the house!

https://youtu.be/94Z5GhDYUjA

  • Scuffed Shoes – Toothpaste will effectively remove scuffs from your shoes! Keep your new kicks fresh by adding a little toothpaste to scuff marks and simply wiping them off.
  • Prevent foggy mirrors – you can’t see your face clearly in that fogged-up bathroom mirror. Next time, coat the mirror with non-gel toothpaste and wipe it off before you get in the shower. When you get out, the mirror won’t be fogged.
  • Cleaning the Bathroom – Non-gel toothpaste works as well as anything else to clean the bathroom sink. The tube’s sitting right there, so just squirt some in, scrub with a sponge, and rinse it out. Bonus: The toothpaste will kill any odors emanating from the drain trap.
  • Remove Stains – Put non-gel toothpaste on the stain and rub the fabric vigorously together. Rinse with water. Did some of the ink come out? Great! Repeat the process a few more times until you get rid of all the ink. The same process works for lipstick.
  • Acne and Pimples – Dab a bit of non-gel, non whitening toothpaste on the offending spot, and it should be dried up by morning. The toothpaste dehydrates the pimple and absorbs the oil. This remedy works best on pimples that have come to a head. Caution: This remedy may be irritating to sensitive skin.
  • Get Smells Off Your hands – The ingredients in toothpaste that deodorize your mouth will work on your hands as well. If you’ve gotten into something stinky, wash your hands with toothpaste, and they’ll smell great.
  • Piano Keys – Clean them up with toothpaste and a toothbrush, then wipe them down with a damp cloth. Makes sense, since ivory is essentially elephant teeth. However, toothpaste will work just as well on modern pianos that usually have keys covered with plastic rather than real ivory.
  • Oxidized Headlights – The dings and scratches sustained by headlight glass defuses the light and makes it harder to see. Eliminate this haze by thoroughly cleaning the headlight, then rubbing in a glob of toothpaste. Follow up with a good buffing to even out the glass, either by hand or with the buffer on an electric drill.
  • Carpet stains – Squeeze toothpaste directly onto the carpet stain and scrub it with a toothbrush. Then rinse and repeat the process until the stain disappears.
  • Cell Phone Screens – Unprotected mobile-phone screens become scratched to heck over time. Lightly rub the screen with a touch of toothpaste and your finger. Rinse with a damp cloth and dry. This also works on watch crystals, for those of us Luddites who still wear watches.
  • Baby Bottles – Remove that sour-milk-smell baby bottles get by scrubbing with a water-and-toothpaste mixture. Rinse very thoroughly with water or toss the bottles into the dishwasher.
  • Crayon on Walls – Children, crayons and walls are natural attractants. No need to panic. Just gently rub a damp cloth and some toothpaste on your child’s masterpiece, then rinse with a wet cloth and dry.
  • Leather – Put a dab on leather scuffs, rub in with a soft cloth, and rinse with a damp cloth. Works well on shoes, purses, coats or anything else made of leather.
  • Linoleum – Scrub scuff marks with toothpaste and a dry cloth until no residue remains.
  • Patio Furniture – Apply some elbow grease, a brush and a mixture of toothpaste and water. Use a teeth-whitening paste on white furniture for the perfect shine.
  • Silver and Brass – Use a soft toothbrush to scrub lightly with just a dab of paste. Rinse thoroughly and polish with a dry, soft cloth. If toothpaste remains in any cracks, clean the toothbrush thoroughly and brush under water to dislodge the white paste. Dry again and polish.
  • Bug Bites – For mosquito, ant and other small bug bites, apply toothpaste to sooth itching and cool the skin. You can apply paste to bee stings, as well, but seek medical assistance if you experience shortness of breath or other serious symptoms.
  • Burns – Next time you burn yourself on the stove or a hot pan, plunge the affected area under cold water to rapidly bring down the skin temperature. (Not butter! This is a myth.)  After the acute phase is over, smear non-gel toothpaste thickly over the burn until the skin cools permanently and the sting is gone. Finally, apply a healing agent, such as aloe vera.
  • Chrome – Do those water spots on your bathroom faucets bug you while brushing your teeth? Apply a dab of paste, rub it in and rinse. Now you can admire your reflection while making those strange brushing faces.
  • Hair Gel – Toothpaste contains the same water-soluble polymers found in many hair gels. In a pinch, it can serve the same purpose. Toothpaste also is a great stick-um for bab
